Running Ridge Toy & Miniature Schnauzers

Home of the Elegant Brown, White, Merle and Piebald Schnauzers

WELCOME To our little site on the Web!

We've just added Schnauzers to our lil' menagerie of animals a short while ago but have fallen instantly in love with them.  As with our other dogs we will strive to raise the best examples of the breed that we possibly can.  To achieve our goal we have gone to the far reaches of the United States and bought puppies that were of outstanding quality from parents that were excellent specimens of the breed in Conformation, health and temperament.

Now our journey begins to reproduce the very best Schnauzer puppies possible in the colors and patterns that those before us have unsuccessfully tried to make extinct.

Come on in and take a look around and see our Guys & Gals.

Please excuse us if our pride in our dogs shows through cyberspace!

We have been raising the Schnauzer breed for a few years now and have found them to be a accumulation of fun, full of energy, eager to please with a zest for life.  They are known for their loyalty and devotion and seldom is a family to be found with just one.

A well coated and groomed Schnauzer is quite a site to see.  They come in both the ORIGINAL Wire German coat and the new American Soft Coat.  Both are equally desirable and attractive little dogs.  The Wire coats are easier to maintain and require less maintenance than the American soft coat but both carry the same wonderful attitude of the Schnauzer breed.

We have been working toward more NATURAL erect ears in our guys and gals as the time is approaching where cropping will be banned in the United States.

The Schnauzers native land and place of origin is Germany.  The first German documentation  for the Schnauzer was established in 1880.  The first Breed Standard was established in 1895 by the Germany Pinscher Klub now called the Pinscher-Schnauzer Klub.  The colors listed were White, Black/Silver, Salt/Pepper.

The American Kennel Club allowed the first registration of a Schnauzer on March 31, 1925 which was an imported one from Germany and was listed as being 'black'".

The Miniature Schnauzer Club of America, Inc., was formed in 1929 and became the AKC Breed Club for the Miniature Schnauzer.  Prior to the formation of the MSCA the Miniature Schnauzer was shown in the Miscellaneous class but was changed to the Toy Class.

The August 1935 AKC Breed Standard allowed Blues, Brown, Yellow, Red and Black and that standard was still in effect up to 1950.  The size was 11.5 inches being 6-10 pounds in weight.  Light color or white, very dark or sooty spots, - in listed markings were considered faults.  The tail was to be 1 to 2 inches in length cropped.

The Miniature Schnauzer is kissing cousins to the Miniature Pinscher and were bred from the same bloodlines in the beginning of the breeds development.
